Harness #1

My first-ever harness, made from the patterns illustrated in Susan Bensema-Young's book. Shown here on "Joxer the Mighty", an OF Breyer Saddle Mule being driven to a Breyer Meadowbrook Cart. The first time I showed this turnout at a live show it won first place!

Later on this harness was given a major overhaul, see the next photos for more info.

Harness #1a

I dug out the first harness after some years of retirement and gave it a facelift. The pad was replaced with faux patent leather and given a fancier checkhook, a sidecheck and martingale were added, as well as a red velveteen pad. I altered it to fit Breyer's graceful "Strapless" mold.

I would consider this to be a medium-complex pattern harness, which would cost about 95.00.

Harness #1a, closeup

As well as giving the bridle a new browband, correct russet colored reins, and adjusting the buckles a bit, I added new blinkers. These are faux patent leather with russet glove leather lining sewn on(yeah, that's right- sewn on! My hands were not happy with me...) I also made a driving whip to go with this set, which was sold on eBay.

Harness #6

I went a bit smaller with this one, this harness was made for the Hagen Renaker Specialty scale Donkey Mama, who is about 3 inches tall!

This is what I consider a simple pattern harness. No lined blinkers, no overcheck or sidecheck, simple loops for the harness tugs, etc.

Harness #6 study

I had to simplify the pattern like crazy, but it worked! The buckles are Rio Rondo 1/16 oval buckles snipped in half. Some buckles are functional, some aren't. The working buckles are on the crown(bridle), right hipstrap(the breeching is slipped between the tail and leg), crupper, and both girths. The harness is removeable, and is surprisingly easy to take on and off! Sold on eBay.

Harness #...I lost count! Made to fit the Salinero mold, also fit Adios. Won 1st in harness at AHL 07, and reserve Champ other performance. Sold on eBay.

They just keep gettin' smaller!

This used to be a pewter charm, I just sanded off the hanging ring and painted! Penny shown for scale(MUCH larger than life size, obviously!) The "numbers" on the viewscreen were painted with a toothpick. I seem to have lost this tiny little prop in a move, sadly.

Harness #5

This was a fairly simple harness I made for a CM Breyer Sicilian Donkey I used to own. The cart was made from a kit. The harness was sold on eBay, I still own the cart.

Cutter sleigh(sort of...)

This was customized from a piece meant as an ornament for Victorian doll/teddy bear displays. The shafts were customized from a broken Marx wagon.

Anyone seen my hat?

About a year ago I tried making customized miniature cowboy hats for Breyer dolls, while they were fun to make they didn't sell well at all so I dropped that idea.

This one was dyed using leather dye, the hatband is deerskin lace darted with DMC floss, the hatstring is floss again with silver bead tips. This one sold for about , interestingly it wasn't a model horse hobbyist who bought it, but a miniature teddy bear hobbyist...

Floral arrangement set

Made using miniature terra cotta flower pots and customized silk flowers.

Pony harness(#4)

Click on the photo for more pics. Made for the Stone Pony, yes, I know it's missing the overgirth! (whoops!)

Impulse buy, impulse tack project!

The Breyer was an impulse buy at Target a week and a half ago. The costume was the result of me spotting an open bag of craft feathers I'd been using for another project, and thinking "She'd look cute in a circus costume... I wonder if I could get it done in time for American Heartland Live?" I did, and it won a 2nd in Other Costume! Click on the photo for a photo of the setup and its ribbon at AHL.
